I write crap. I also drum and sing, and I compose crap.

Who am I, and what is this crap?

I’m a Kansas white boy, born in Wichita in the 70’s and transplanted myself to Boston in the late 90’s. I started writing short stories when I was eight, started drumming when I was thirteen, and started singing and composing when I was twenty-one. Rufus Deschain is a “pen name,” by the way–real name being Luke.

Back in the late 90’s/early 00’s, I was a contributing writer for Performer Publications (performermag.com) and I played in a few bands you’ve never heard of including (Not) Martin and Critical Darling. I studied composition at Longy School of Music with Howard Frazin before I transferred to UMass Lowell and finished my bachelor’s as a Music Performance with Music Business emphasis major. I studied mallets and timpani with a guy (Jeff Fischer) who studied with Vic Firth, and I studied drum set with one of the most awesome people I’ve ever met, the legendary Fred Buda.

Nowadays I live in the wilds of North Central Mass. with an amazing wife that I totally don’t deserve to be with and five kids that are even more amazing but all in their own way. Buddha Squid Enterprises is not a record label or a publishing entity or anything of actual real consequence in the real world, it is just my creative mode–no more, no less. Buddha Squid is capable of being short fiction, poetry, spoken word, thrash, death metal, modern jazz, funk, chamber music, nerdcore, experimental electronic, and whatever the fukk else all rolled up into one weird little realm of pure dipshittery.

Thanks for taking the time to visit, and I hope you find something here that is inspiring, at best, but at a minimum, briefly entertaining.
